The new 'Your Time On Facebook' feature tells you how much time you waste on the social network

Image
Facebook has been refined over the years to keep you online and interacting with the service as long as possible. That ensures you'll see lots of Facebook ads, but it can be a drain on your time if you get stuck in a Facebook vortex. With everyone suddenly concerned about limiting screen time, Facebook has rolled out its previously announced "Your Time On Facebook" feature. It tells you how long you've been using the Facebook app, but that's pretty much it. You'll find this feature tucked away under Facebook’s More tab > Settings & Privacy > Your Time On Facebook. There is, unfortunately, not much going on here. There's a graph (which you can see below) that provides the total time you've used Facebook for the last seven days. You can tap on any day to get the exact time, but this is a bad graph—there's no y-axis, so you can't tell much without tapping on all the bars. So far, this has been live in every Facebook app inst...

Play Store now showing reminders in Updates tab to install previously-used apps

Image
Google's Play Store seems to have at least a hundred different minor UI tests running at any given time — which makes it a bit hard for both us and consumers to keep track of things — but we've just spotted another. Google is now prompting users with a new card in the updates tab of My apps & Games which offers to reinstall applications previously used but not currently installed. The new card, which appears at the top of all content in the Updates tab, highlights a handful of apps you've previously had installed, including those from other devices across a range of time. In my case, some of the apps included haven't been installed on any of my Android gadgets for years, while others were installed on other phones only days ago. Tapping "review all" on the card takes you to a new Recommended card in the Library tab, prompting you to either install the whole lot or select from items individually. We aren't entirely sure what triggers its appea...

App Cloner: use multiple accounts on the same device

Image
One of the problem of App Cloner specifically noted was incompatibility with WhatsApp.  Well, the update  brings with it precisely that support, and that is a very good thing. Which means that you can now clone your what's app. If you happen to use multiple accounts for the service, for instance in the case of multiple SIMs, instead of having to go to the effort to manually switch (which can cause issues), now you can keep multiple instances installed and have each associated with its own account. Then there's no concern about missed notifications during periods not signed in on a specific account. It might be a bit niche, but that's a huge convenience. WhatsApp support isn't the only thing that's been updated. Prior to 1.4.0 apps like Chrome and Gmail would fail to work, but in the latest version they've been given some limited functionality when duplicated. The major caveat being that neither works directly with a Google account on duplicated installs, so emai...

Chainfire, creator of SuperSU, announces end of development for his root apps

Image
Chainfire is best known for creating  SuperSU , one of the most popular superuser managers on Android, but he has also developed countless other applications. Some examples include  FlashFire ,  Sideload Launcher for Android TV ,  stickMount , and CF.lumen . He transferred SuperSU to a new development team back in 2015, and his involvement in the app ended last year. Today, Chainfire announced on his Google+ account that all his root-related apps will no longer be maintained or updated.  SuperSU will continue to be developed, because it is maintained by another team.  He hopes to update a few non-root applications in the future, but some will be shelved as well. Here's the final part of his announcement: Again I would like to thank everyone who has supported me and my developments over the years! I've met great people and made good friends, some of which I'm now actively working with on other projects, even. But at the moment I...
