WhatsApp Beta 2.18.300 adds swipe to reply gesture

Image
iOS users have enjoyed a neat gesture in WhatsApp for a long time that us Android fans have been denied: a simple swipe to reply on any message. For the past few weeks, this feature has been rumored to be coming to Android and now it's finally live in the latest beta. If you're using WhatsApp Beta 2.18.300, you'll simply have to swipe (or flick, really) any message to the right to trigger a reply. The message will be quoted and you'll be able to type in a reply very quickly. Before this gesture was implemented, you had to tap and hold on the message and either start typing immediately (little known trick) or tap the reply button in the top bar. The gesture is definitely a faster and more intuitive way to do it. To get Beta 2.18.300, you either have to join the official Play Store beta program and wait for the app to update or you can grab it directly from APK Mirror. WhatsApp Messenger Price: Free

WhatsApp might have a dark mode soon

Image
WhatsApp has plenty of features, like group chat, video calling, multi-platform support, and more. One thing that has always been missing, at least on Android and iOS, is a dark mode. Fortunately, it looks like that long-awaited mode might finally arrive in WhatsApp. WABetaInfo regularly performs teardowns on new WhatsApp APKs, and he revealed on Twitter that there are references to a dark mode in recent versions. No other information is known at this time, but it's safe to assume WhatsApp will eventually be easier to use at night.

How to start a WhatsApp group video call.

Image
The latest WhatsApp update  allows users to perform a video call with up to three members in a group. Firstly, open the Whatsapp application on your device and locate the group you want to place the video call from. Highlight/Press and hold on the message of the participants that you want to involve in the call like you want to copy the text/chat. Now, tap the three dots you'll see at the top right corner of the screen and then select video call. To add more participants to the video call, simply check the top right corner of the screen and click the “add symbol.” Please note that you can only add up to 3 more participants on the group call as the initiator.  How was the experience?

WhatsApp Restricts broadcast messages to 20 people.

Image
Whatsapp is trying all possible best to save us on the issue of spreading fake news most especially via broadcast and forward messages. Users of the instant messaging app will no longer be able to forward messages to more than 20 people. WhatsApp had previously introduced the ‘forward message indicator’ a few weeks back in chats to make it clear when a user has received a forwarded message. The move is said to be targeted at fighting the spread of fake news, but, in Nigeria, it really is a double-edged sword. Forwarding messages to 20 people still appear to be too much – Maximum of 5 should be okay. More social networks and online platforms are said to be considering copying the move.

WhatsApp beta 2.18.132 is rolling out group settings and restrictions for admins

Image
Up until now, WhatsApp groups hadn't given admins full control over what's happening inside them. Only they could invite and remove members, or promote others to admin status, but they couldn't restrict the option to edit the group's icon, description, and subject (name).  Any member, admin or not, was able to change those, which probably resulted in unfortunate circumstances where troublesome or even malicious members messed up with a group's information. That is changing with the rollout of WhatsApp version 2.18.132, which is now in the beta channel. Admins will see a new  Group settings  option under a group's info page, below  Encryption . Tapping it opens a new page where they can restrict access to editing the group's info and change the group's admins.   Editing group info can be left open to all participants or restricted to admins only to avoid any mishaps. As for changing group admins, you can already make any member an adm...

WhatsApp 2.18.102 brings a voice note recording lock option

Image
If you've been following the WhatsApp rumors, you'd know that we've been promised a voice recording lock option for a while now and it's finally live in the beta channel on version 2.18.102 of the app.  The lock won't show up immediately after you start recording a voice note, but after a few seconds it will appear with a little hint that sliding up will lock the microphone on. Anyone who's used WhatsApp's voice recording knows that it can be a little annoying: you tap the microphone and have to keep it tapped while you're talking then release it to send the message or slide to the left to cancel it. When you're sending long voice messages or you're otherwise occupied, keeping your hand gripped on your phone and your finger pressed on the screen isn't the most ideal of interactions, so the lock is a great solution to continue recording even if you release your finger. Once you lock the microphone, the interface changes: the time stay...

See how much WhatsApp charge on call with data

Image
Have been wondering what amount or cost WhatsApp charges to make a call or video via data charges. Note that with low or poor network,  your calls via WhatsApp won't be okay. Network: 2GData consumption in two minutes of call: 400KB Type of Network: 3GData consumption in two minutes of call: 600KB. Network: 4GData consumption in two minutes of call: 1MB. These results are based on your type of network and speed but in a case where there is bad network coverage, the data consumption per minute will reduce a little and you should expect low quality call on WhatsApp.

WhatsApp's 'change number' feature now includes an option to automatically notify your contacts [APK Download]

Image
Just like moving house, changing your phone number can be a laborious and stressful undertaking.  You have to let everyone know and update a bunch of accounts with the correct information. And there's always at least one thing you forget about, frustratingly. An  update to WhatsApp's 'change number' feature  hopes to make the process a little bit more bearable. The feature can be accessed by navigating to  Settings > Account > Change number , and it was already pretty useful. It would migrate your account info, settings, groups, and even chats (as long as you use the same phone). Your groups would already be notified automatically, but in an update rolling out to the beta channel currently, you'll now get an option to notify your individual contacts, too. You can choose to notify all your contacts, just those you have chats with, or choose only specific friends. As before, all your groups are notified regardless of this new setting. It...
